Living Cities
We are launching our Living Cities experience week with years 7 and 8 on Monday 7th February.
By 2020 it is estimated that 80% of the world’s population will live in a City of some size or shape. Students in the Junior Learning Village will spend the week exploring Cities through a number of different perspectives: Architecture and Building; Living with Others; Sustainable Living; Staying Healthy in an Urban Environment; Arts and Entertainment; and How Cities Work. They will manage their own learning by choosing which workshops they wish to attend, and at the end of the week they will create websites to show what they have learnt.

Tonight Matthew we’re going to be wearing wigs!
Rock school has started up again and our wannabe Rock Starts will be working hard all year in preparation for their end of year gig.
The themes in the past have been Rock School vs Guitar Hero with an xbox on stage plugged into the big screen in the hub, last year was US vs UK number ones and the theme for this year is…
“Tonight Matthew we’re going to be wearing wigs.”
The concert will be just before Easter (April 14th) and each group will take on the personas members of a famous band via the medium of wigs. They will then de-wig and reveal their true identities, and perform a song of their own.
There is a rumour (although it may only be a rumour) that a staff band may be making a guest appearance in the concert.

Fusion radio visits BBC Studios
Cramlington’s home grown presenters of FusionRadio did some research just before the summer holidays. Matthew, Adam and Jonny all visited the BBC Studios in Newcastle for a guided tour of both the TV and Radio studios. The were lucky enough to get the opportunity to pick the brains of professional presenters who were able to give them plenty of advice they can use in the school radio station.
FusionRadio currently broadcasts over four lunch times each week, some of these shows are live and all are available as podcasts on the FusionRadio website. Executive producer, Matthew demonstrated his initiative by arranging the visit and during the tour the students were praised for asking the best questions there had ever been on a school visit. That is no surprise from these three students who saw this visit as a great opportunity to learn from the best and spent a great deal of time deciding exactly what they wanted to find out during the visit.
What did the team learn? What do they want to achieve next year having seen what the professionals do? Here are the thoughts of the team from the meeting they had on their return from the visit:
