{"id":3657,"date":"2016-04-13T14:22:35","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T14:22:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/?p=3657"},"modified":"2021-05-11T11:09:39","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T11:09:39","slug":"raising-money-to-support-inspirational-students-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/?p=3657","title":{"rendered":"Raising money to support inspirational student&#8217;s charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cramlington Learning Village<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3658 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Elena-Walker-and-Julie-Robson-300x252.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Elena-Walker-and-Julie-Robson-300x252.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Elena-Walker-and-Julie-Robson.jpg 541w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u00a0has now raised more than \u00a35,000 in memory of a treasured former student.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Robson was only 18 when she died nearly two years ago from an extremely rare form of cancer.<\/p>\n<p>She had started her own charity &#8211; Jessica&#8217;s Sarcoma Awareness \u2013 and used social media to raise money and help other seriously ill young people.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica\u2019s charity has been continued by her sister Nicole and parents Trevor and Julie, whose fund-raising efforts have been supported by individuals, local businesses and Cramlington Learning Village.<\/p>\n<p>Its students have run, walked and cycled, baked and sold cakes and made donations through non-uniform days and sponsored silences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school has been fantastic,\u201d said Jessica\u2019s mum Julie, who accepted a cheque on behalf of the charity after the latest fund-raising efforts.\u00a0 \u201cThe students and staff have really helped us carry on the work Jessica started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a result the Robsons\u2019 dream of providing respite breaks for sick teenagers and their families is getting closer.<\/p>\n<p>During her treatment Jessica spent time with her family in a caravan in Cresswell. \u201cIt really helped to be together, away from the hustle and bustle but not too far from hospital,\u201d said Trevor.<\/p>\n<p>The family have now identified a site in Northumberland where they plan to build a lodge, using money raised by the charity and some of the proceeds from the sale of their home.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime they continue to support seriously ill young people.\u00a0 Over Easter they visited Great North Children&#8217;s Hospital in Newcastle &#8211; where Jessica was treated &#8211; to hand out eggs, biscuits and presents to patients and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Paterson, Year 11 Learning Manager at Cramlington Learning Village, taught Jessica and is one of four members of staff who \u2013 along with the Robsons \u2013 will be taking part in the Great North Run to raise money for Jessica&#8217;s Sarcoma Awareness.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cJessica battled through every school day with a smile on her face.\u00a0 She is an inspiration \u2013 not just to students who were there at the time \u2013 but even students now who didn\u2019t know her.\u00a0 She\u2019s never far from your thoughts because of the type of girl she was.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cramlington Learning Village\u00a0has now raised more than \u00a35,000 in memory of a treasured former student.
