{"id":3978,"date":"2016-08-25T13:14:25","date_gmt":"2016-08-25T13:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/?p=3978"},"modified":"2021-05-11T11:10:31","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T11:10:31","slug":"school-celebrates-second-week-of-record-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/?p=3978","title":{"rendered":"School celebrates second week of record results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4004\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-1857bed762c5079-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"GCSE-1857bed762c5079.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-1857bed762c5079-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-1857bed762c5079.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-1857bed762c5079-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Cramlington Learning Village is celebrating its second set of record results in a week and the achievements of some of its students who have triumphed over considerable adversity.<\/p>\n<p>More than three quarters of students were awarded a C grade or higher in their GCSE Maths \u2013 the school\u2019s best-ever performance \u2013 and 74% achieved a grade C or higher in English.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, 64% of students received five A* to C grades &#8211; including Maths and English.\u00a0 That was an increase of 6% on last year\u2019s figure and comes just a week after A-level students recorded the most successful results in the school\u2019s history.\u00a0 More than half of them passed their exams with A*, A or B grades.<\/p>\n<p>Head teacher Wendy Heslop said: \u201cStudents and staff have worked incredibly hard throughout the year and their efforts have been rewarded.\u00a0 I am absolutely delighted with the results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4012 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-2657bed7697c3c1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"GCSE-2657bed7697c3c1.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-2657bed7697c3c1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-2657bed7697c3c1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-2657bed7697c3c1-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Seventeen students achieved eight A* and A grades for their GCSEs.\u00a0 A further 52 were awarded five A* or As.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Mattison\u2019s seven A* and an A came less than two years after he was diagnosed with leukaemia, two weeks into the start of his GCSE courses.\u00a0 As a result he missed virtually all of the school year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just tried to catch up when I could, really,\u201d said Dan, who will study Maths Biology, Chemistry and PE A-levels and eventually hopes to become a doctor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still on treatment and have been all the time. The treatment\u2019s a lot easier now so I can get back to things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThe school\u2019s been great, sending work to my home when I was off and helping me to catch up when I had to miss lessons for hospital visits.\u00a0 I was a little bit surprised by my results but obviously delighted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catriona Wilkinson, whose daughter Chloe Beaney had a heart transplant in November 2014, said: \u201cIt\u2019s been a very good day.\u00a0 A day we thought we might not actually see.\u00a0 We\u2019re so amazingly proud of her.\u00a0 The school has been fantastic.\u00a0 I just couldn\u2019t have asked for better help for her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4016\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-29-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"GCSE-29.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-29-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-29.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Chloe, who had to undergo chemotherapy at the age of two and developed a serious heart condition when she was 12, said: \u201cI didn\u2019t expect what I got, so I am quite proud of myself. \u00a0The school\u2019s been so helpful with extra tuition, trying to make me comfortable with what I\u2019m doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She passed all of her exams, apart from one which she will re-sit, despite missing all of the first year of her GCSE courses.<\/p>\n<p>Another proud parent was Brenda Hayton, whose son Peter is visually impaired.\u00a0 Peter received two A*, four As and three Bs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so proud of him,\u201d said Brenda. \u201cHe always does the best he can and deserves these results.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like Dan Mattison, Ellie Coaker and Gemma Clark hope to pursue careers in medicine.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4013 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-27-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"GCSE-27.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-27-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.cramlingtonlv.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/GCSE-27.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Ellie received eight A* and an A, while Gemma\u2019s results were six A* and two As.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was bit overwhelmed with my results but obviously extremely happy,\u201d said Ellie. Gemma said she was \u201celated with what she had done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whilst they are now looking forward to a further two years of studying A-levels at Cramlington Learning Village, for one student \u2013 Adam Shrewry \u2013 the visit to the school to pick up his results could be his last time there.<\/p>\n<p>Adam\u2019s results of four A*, four As and a B has confirmed that he will be heading off to Eton College \u2013 one of the world\u2019s most famous schools \u2013 on a scholarship.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"gallery_box\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><!-- .gallery_box -->\n\t\t\t\t\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cramlington Learning Village is celebrating its second set of record results in a week and the achievements of some of its students who have triumphed over considerable adversity.
