CLV football teams get off to a great start

Well done to the Year 7 boys who won their first round National Cup match v Ashington 4-2 after extra time. Goals from Callum W, Aidan P, Matthew G and Jamie B. The draw has been made for round two and the boys are away to Kingsmeadow School in Gateshead.

There was an excellent first round win for our Year 9 boys team against a strong St. Roberts of Washington. An outstanding performance from Chris W and two goals from Owen L saw the team through to round 2.

The girls U14 and U16 teams got off to a great start to the season with both teams remaining unbeaten as they played in the first round of the county 7-a-side league. The teams played 3 matches which ended with both teams gaining two wins and a draw.

The year 11 boys team were victorious in the second round of the National Cup, beating St. Roberts of Newminster. The CLV boys travelled to Washington last Thursday to play a very strong team and despite going down 2-1, CLV levelled the tie with an excellent cross / shot from Joe R, with Thomas S scoring the winner with about 10 minutes to go. Well done to all the players involved, special mention to Scott S who was awarded man of the match and Ethan S who got the first goal. Also, well done to Ewan K who unfortunately missed the school game but scored on his debut for the U16 County Squad.

The 6th form boys team got their season underway with a 1-0 win at home to Queen Elizabeth High School last week. Christie F scored the match winning goal, but there were some excellent performances all over the pitch including some amazing saves from year 11 Matthew A who stepped in at the last minute to play in goal, and a man of the match performance from James R who worked tirelessly up and down the left wing causing all sorts of problems for the QE defence.

A great start to the football season for our teams, we wish them luck in their next matches.
