End of season successes for our football teams

Our year 8 boys team played in the Northumberland Schools’ Cup Final at Newcastle University last Thursday. Their opponents Valley Gardens, who they had narrowly defeated in the National Cup earlier in the season, were a strong side looking to redress their previous cup defeat against CLV. A tight game saw both teams have chances but CLV edged possession and carved out an opportunity for Aiden P to smash the ball across the goalkeeper to give CLV a 1-0 lead.  Despite a resurgent Valley Gardens response, a great team effort by CLV kept their 1-0 lead until the final whistle and they lifted the cup.

Not resting on their laurels the team ended their season by completed the double, finishing league winners with a 2-0 win in the league playoff final against Tweedmouth.  A very impressive season ending with 16 wins and only 1 loss.

The U13 girls team had an impressive 4-3 win over St Thomas More in their semi final of the Berry Cup, setting up a final against Ovingham. Despite a hard fought performance the girls were unable to defeat a strong Ovingham side who ended the match as cup winners. Congratulations to Ovingham on their win.

Huge well done to our year 9 boys team who won the Northumberland League Cup recently. In a very close game against an excellent Astley side it took extra time to settle the match with CLV coming out on top 2-1 thanks to goals from Harvey W and Alex H.

Our U15 girls team had a tough semi final of the Merchant Navy Cup against a resilient Bedlington High School side. A strong performance from CLV was rewarded with a 2-0 advantage into the second half. A spirited Bedlington side fought their way back into the game levelling at 2-2, forcing the game into extra time. In a close contest Bedlington snatched the winning goal to send them through to the final 3-2.  Well done to our girls who played a great game and good luck to Bedlington in the final.

The U19 boys team have becoming back-to-back winners of the Subsidiary Cup with a great win against RGS in the final. In a tight game with both sides producing great performances CLV edged it with a late winner. 3-2 the final score with goals from Hunter, Daglish and Cassidy.

Well done to all our teams who, yet again, have shown great enthusiasm and dedication to their sport.
